I first went to Britannia to cook. It is something that I enjoy. Also, I can stretch a meal. I’ve cooked for up to 300 in the tiny kitchen in the 55+ Centre. I also was welcomed to the 55+ group even though I wasn’t of age yet. I got to craft with the group and enjoyed socializing with everyone.
A highlight for me was when I volunteered with Todd DeVries G̱íihlgiigaa, the resident cedar weaver at Britannia. We made cedar hats and was so much fun for me! I always said that I had to move to Vancouver to start learning my Haida culture.
I decided to run for the Board of Directors when the Britannia Renewal project began. It was important to me as I agree with the work that the Centre is doing—especially with Reconciliation.
I have made so many friends and have met so many awesome people at Britannia. I love being there and volunteering with a community that is engaged and cares for each other. We have so many wonderful people that make Britannia what it is. It’s a great place to be!
