Reconciliation

Reconciliation leads our work towards the renewal of Britannia

Reconciliation is a way of continuing to live together. The Renewal project centres values from the Host Nations and experiences of Urban Indigenous communities to inform the orientation, programming and design of the overall site.

Traditional Ancestral & Unceded Territories

We live and work on the unceded traditional and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The Renewal offers an important opportunity to honor this place, and we recognize with gratitude that local First Nations have stewarded these lands since time immemorial.

Large & Diverse Community of Indigenous Residents

The Britannia catchment is home to the largest population of Indigenous people—and particularly Indigenous families—in Vancouver. Britannia is grateful to host a wealth of Indigenous-led community programming, events and gatherings, in addition to sharing the site’s šxʷqʷeləwən ct Carving Centre with the Vancouver School Board and the community.

Reconciliation as a Key Value

We strive to address social and historical inequities by advocating for and acting in collaboration with Indigenous community members. It is our priority to ensure Indigenous history and culture is reflected throughout every phase of the project. We are committed to continuous learning and dialogue in the new place we create together.
